Exciting News!

Image
Well friends, we have some super exciting news to share today! We are moving! We bought a house, an old beauty of a fixer upper that we absolutely cannot wait to live in! The home has good bones, which was the most important thing to us, but we will need to completely renovate the kitchen, bathrooms & most of the exterior. It is full of projects & potential, which is both exciting & terrifying at the same time. I don't have a ton of pictures right now, but wanted to share a few that I snapped on inspection day, the natural light & old restored hardwoods are some of my favorite things about the house. There is a front & back staircase, which is something I have only seen in older homes around here, but reminds me of my grandparents' house growing up & I love that! So here's how it went down. Last year, when our house was on the market & we thought we were going to build, we went to see this house when it was in foreclosure. We f

Mini Style // Red White & Blue

Image
Fourth of July is just around the corner & we have been scouting out the cutest red, white & blue gear mini styles for a few weeks now. Holidays like this are when I have the most fun dressing my girls, I remember when I was pregnant with Harper, the very first thing I bought (before I even knew I was having a girl) was a little red, white & blue hair bow. Rounding up a few favorites, for both girls & boys, and clearly obsessing over bubble rompers & chambray right now! :) Navy Star Romper // Colorblock Hair Bow // Chambray Shirt // Red Shorts // Striped Shortie One Piece // Red Gingham Romper ( sold out but similar here and here !) // Navy Tulle Dress We are super excited for our 4th of July plans this year & so hoping we can make it through the fireworks show with everyone's sanity in tact. Harper & Eloise are old enough to enjoy them, and Claire is pretty darn easy going so we hope she may just sleep through them. It's hard to beli

The Sunflower Farm

Image
We took a little trip to a local sunflower farm last week & the girls have not stopped talking about it ever since. Harper called it "the land of yellow corn flowers" and after sneezing a bunch after we left, she got very concerned about having "aller-jesus." It has always been my dream to own a place like this, a Christmas tree farm in Vermont or a bed & breakfast in Savannah. Or a house on Melrose in Iowa City during tailgating season. ;) A place of your own, that you get to share little bits & pieces with everyone else. Kinda like blogging I guess. I gave Harper & Eloise each a dollar bill so they could go buy a sunflower to bring home. They ended up pulling off all of the petals one by one, and stuffing them inside some hydrangea stems they pulled out of the front yard, and made wedding bouquets to run through the sprinkler with. I love their imaginations. And the fact that I got to drink coffee in peace & quite for almost an hou

Outdoor Entertaining with Target

Image
We love summer entertaining & will never turn down an excuse to have friends over for dinner and drinks. This past weekend, we had some of our neighbors over for a little modern fiesta style dinner after the kids were in bed, we served up some fish tacos, peach mango salsa, fresh watermelon & our favorite frozen margaritas. So today we are partnering with Target to share a little outdoor entertaining inspiration, along with five quick tips for throwing together an easy summer get together! 1. Lanterns // Grouping a few lanterns together is an easy, but beautiful centerpiece. I love that most lanterns come in a few different sizes so you can get smaller ones for the table & larger ones to put on the ground to pull the look together. Add a citronella candle to keep the bugs away! 2. Plastic Plates // Forget paper plates for your outdoor gathering, melamine plates are not only beautiful, but also practical, especially if you have kids! 3. Beverage Stat

Claire's Peachy First Birthday Party

Image
Our sweet Georgia peach turned one this weekend & we had the best time celebrating her. As soon as Claire was born, I envisioned having a summery peach birthday party for her, and it was so much fun to plan. I think with each baby, and each birthday throughout the year, each party just get a little less elaborate, but we still love to make them so special in their own way. We loved getting to celebrate her with our friends & family. We had a simple peach double layer cake (I used this recipe , but did white frosting instead) & cupcakes for dessert. I saw a tutorial for apple & heart shaped cupcakes on pinterest using a small piece of rolled up aluminum foil that you tuck between the cupcake paper & the cupcake pan to create a slightly different shape for the actual cupcake. I thought this could apply to the peach shape too, so I made the cupcakes this way, frosted them with a few layers of different colored peach frosting, added white sugar sprinkles & garnis

Strawberry Shortcake Seven Ways

Image
Strawberry shortcake is our absolute favorite summer dessert around here. My kids are addicted to strawberries, and when they are in season, we can't help but buy them in bulk. Last weekend we made homemade biscuits to throw together a super yummy shortcake, and it did not disappoint! Topped with vanilla frozen yogurt, whipped cream, sliced strawberries in homemade syrup & probably too much powdered sugar. If there is such a thing.   I am rounding up seven of my favorite recipes for strawberry shortcake today, and thinking it wouldn't be a bad idea to try them all before summer is over! ;) 1. Grilled Strawberry Shortcake Donuts // This totally counts as breakfast right? 2. Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Sandwiches // I love these all tied up with bakers twine, so pretty for entertaining or birthday parties! 3. Strawberry Shortcake Overnight Oats // Overnight oats are so easy & make for such a good way to switch up breakfasts, especially for kids. 4

House Progress, Day 4.

Image
It's official, we closed on our new house on Friday afternoon!! We were so excited to get started, and kicked off the weekend with a bottle of champs in the back yard! Renovations started first thing this week! Here is the before & a few progress shots of the kitchen. The kitchen had new appliances, beautiful (although very purple) granite & a new sink/faucet installed on top of bum cabinets, which kinda stinks. The cabinets needed a lot of work & were also very dated for the look we wanted, so we opted to pull the out all together. Since almost all of this was salvageable, we knew we could not just throw it away. We got in touch with our local Wounded Warriors Project where we were able to donate our entire kitchen to their Homes for Heroes operation. They will demo an entire kitchen, make repairs to the cabinetry & install it into a home that is being given to a veteran. Probably the highlight of us owning this home so far!    The demo is
